Publishes scientific papers (research papers, review articles, letters and notes) dealing with the part of the atmosphere where meteorological events occur. Attention is given to all processes extending from the earth surface to the tropopause.

Deals with the scientific and technical problems of cold environments, including both natural and artificial environments. The primary concern is with problems related to the freezing of water, and especially with the many forms of ice, snow and frozen ground.

The journal encourages contributions in atmospheric and climate dynamics, and publishes modelling studies of biogeochemical systems in recognition of their role as a component of planetary, biological and chemical research.

Places particular emphasis on environmental, geotechnical, engineering and hydrological aspects, while at the same time welcoming papers in traditional subjects such as mining and petroleum geophysics. Petrophysics in its widest sense including soil and rock-mechanical properties is another aspect that is covered by the journal.

Covers all aspects of the application of geochemistry to the exploration and study of mineral resources and related fields, including the geochemistry of the environment.

An international and interdisciplinary forum for the publication of results and discussions of solid earth research in geodetic, geophysical, geological and geochemical geodynamics, with special emphasis on the large scale processes involved.
